House System

Pastoral care underpins everything we do at Kolbe and finds itself placed not only within our classrooms but also within our vertical House System. Kolbe’s pastoral care program and House system is about building relationships and working with students so they have the fullest opportunity for personal, academic, social and spiritual growth.

On enrolment at the College, students are allocated to a particular House. Siblings are allocated to the same House. There are currently 42 Pastoral Care classes, 7 per House, with each class assigned a Learning Advisor also know as the pastoral care teacher.

The Learning Advisor in theory and wherever possible, stays with the same group of students for as many years as possible. In this way, the students are well known by one particular teacher, who is the first point of call for all interaction with parents.

Kolbe Catholic College is made up of the following six Houses:

CHISHOLM: Confidence, Tolerance, Belief

Named after Caroline Chisholm
Colour: Yellow

DUNLOP: Forgiveness, Commitment & Determination

Named after Sir (Ernest) Edward “Weary” Dunlop
Colour: Orange

FRASSATI: Respect, Outreach, Strength

Named after Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Colour: Red

MACKILLOP: Service, Social Responsibility, Opportunity

Named after St Mary of the Cross, Mary MacKillop
Colour: Green

ROMERO: Justice, Empowerment, Hope

Named after Archbishop Oscar Romero
Colour: Purple

TERESA: Dignity, Empathy & Humility

Named after Mother Teresa
Colour: Blue

Each House has been named after these individuals because their significant life work:

had been inspiration to others
reflected a life of service
helped to provide assistance to others
is consistent with gospel values and the ministry of the Church
reflected the legacy of St Maximilian Kolbe.

It is through the College House System and Pastoral Care Program that students explore and identify with the qualities and values that represent them at a House level in light of St Maximilian Kolbe’s commitment to a life of service. Some of the qualities and values listed that students have already identified with include:

The ability of our students to live their faith through their actions.
That we are all made in God’s likeness.
The College motto of ‘Faith, Courage, Compassion’ being infused in all we do as a College.
There is a sense of teamwork and cooperation between students and teachers.
The ability of our community to be caring of and supportive towards each other.
The ability of our community to treat each other with respect and dignity.
The importance of persistence and never giving up.
To enjoy what you are doing and have fun along the way.
