Spring brings about much change. It is the season where the plants and trees shake off the winter mist and morning frost and start to bloom. The colours we can see are different to that of autumn change and can be slightly less exuberant, but nevertheless they are bright and effervescent as we go for a morning walk or run on our local streets.
As the fauna begins to bloom and change, so do our students. Moving toward the end of the year can bring about a great deal of change as the focus on learning slightly changes. There is also a change of uniform and moving from the Winter to Summer uniform takes some getting used to, particularly in Melbourne when during September and October we never know if we are going to need an umbrella or not. However, expectations don’t change. I am thrilled to see the Kolbe students wear their uniform proudly. The distinctive logo with the K, the cross and the prison bars is unique and is most prominent on the College blazer, red jumper, PE uniform and of course on official College correspondence. Being so prominent means that Kolbe students are easily identifiable in the Community and the highest of standards need to be maintained while in uniform.
The uniform, along with students’ grooming, sets the standards that we as a Kolbe Community except. While some see this as petty, the high levels of good behaviour and excellent punctuality are also something that, despite the season of the year, do not change at Kolbe.
As I write, I can see the exceptional work that the year 12s are putting into studying for their exams and those that aren’t completing exams have already moved into the workforce or their desired pathway early, and I wish them every success. The standard for the rest of the College is set as each Year Level move towards exams over the coming month and the school year begins to wind down in December.
