O Lord Jesus Christ,
When you entered Jerusalem,
great crowds waved palm branches and cried “Hosanna.”
Save us now from our sins, and allow us to rejoice in you,
our only Redeemer; through your mercy, O our God,
you are blessed, and live and govern all things, now and forever.
St. Maximilian Kolbe,
Pray For Us.
As we approach the conclusion of Lent and look to Holy Week, it is a timely moment to reflect on the faith activities that concluded Term 1 at Kolbe Catholic College.
Members of Dunlop House gathered on 7 March for their Feast Day, celebrating mass together, presided over by Fr. Samuel Pearson. The students are to be commended for their reverence during this mass, particular thanks to the students who contributed to the success of this mass.
On Friday 15 March, to conclude Catholic Education Week, all the Catholic Schools in the Melbourne diocese gathered for mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The Mass was presided over by Archbishop Peter A. Comensoli, celebrating the theme ‘In the Light of Christ’. Kolbe Catholic College was ably represented by members of our Student Leadership Team, taking time out of their busy academic schedules to attend this significant annual event. I also thank Iwan Walters MP for finding time to speak with our Kolbe students and taking photos with us at the Cathedral.
In the final week of Term 1, we gathered as a whole school for our Easter Liturgy. Drawing on some of the Stations of the Cross, the students were reminded of the story of the Passion. This solemn occasion featured dramatic elements, visualising events featured in the Stations of the Cross. The liturgy concluded by revealing an artwork of the empty tomb, proclaiming Jesus’ resurrection. Anabel, Agam and Leah of year 10 are to be congratulated for the creation of the artwork, thanks also to Ms. Segrave for her artistic guidance. As always, the Kolbe Choir elevate any liturgical celebration and their performance of the school song ‘Faith, Courage and Compassion’ did not disappoint. Thank you to Ms Roso for her artistic vision and considerable work to make this liturgy such a meaningful experience.
Finally, the artwork is currently on display in main reception, I encourage you to visit this fantastic art piece.
In the early weeks of term two, we will acknowledge ANZAC Day and Chisholm House will celebrate their Feast Day. Our year 10s will have their reflection day, led by Fr. Rob Galea. I look forward to marking these events with our students.
Have a safe and happy Easter.
Peace and Blessings
