God of hope and promise, as we spend this Advent season in anticipation and hope of your arrival, we ask that your soothing presence be with us. Too often our expectations of our commercialised culture and our family obligations make us feel overextended and anxious. Help us to centre on our journey toward Bethlehem. Give us calm moments in which to contemplate the purpose of this time of waiting. May your presence be part of all our preparations and planning. Give us ears to hear the alleluias of angels. Lead us toward the manger. Guide us with your star to a place of joy and repose.
St. Maximilian Kolbe,
Pray for us.
Amen.
The 2024 Academic Year has ended, however, we have so much to look forward to. Advent has commenced, we are preparing and waiting for Our Lord, Jesus Christ’s arrival. We also have the Jubilee Year celebrations, beginning on December 24th with Pope Francis opening the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. The year will involve many special occasions and events, including the canonisation of two saints, Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati and Bl. Carlo Acutis.
On Monday 2 December, our Year 8s had their Reflection Day with a focus on Social Justice, especially, Human Dignity, Homelessness and those on the margins in our society. We were very fortunate to hear from Roseane and Rihan from COTS (Christmas on the Streets), to hear about their journey and the progression of COTS from a single event to a registered charity. As a college, we are very proud of Roseane and Rihan as they attended Kolbe as students and are living out the mission of service in their service to the homeless of Melbourne. The students are to be congratulated on their participation during the day, especially the respect shown to our guest speakers.
To acknowledge the end of the year, it has been joyous to gather with each year level for a mass or liturgy. Our Year 11 students concluded with a mass, celebrated by Fr. Samuel, whilst our Year 10 students participated in a liturgy, led by members of their cohort. Finally, students from Year 7 to 9 gathered to celebrate mass together, presided over by Fr. George. As a staff, we will conclude our year with a mass, also to be celebrated by Fr. George.
Finally, may this Christmas season be a time of prayer, family and celebration. To all our students, take this time to rest and recharge, in readiness for 2025.
Peace and Blessings.
