The last three years have been a period of huge growth for the school, with many new staff joining the College community to cater for our ever-expanding student numbers. At the same time, COVID and the need to social distance has made it difficult for our community to gather and for teachers and staff to meet face-to-face. So, it is understandable that many of our families don’t feel as connected to or familiar with our Kolbe staff as they once did.
To help to address this, the College has launched The Spotlight Series. Each fortnight we are putting one of our amazing Kolbe teachers or education support staff in the spotlight and asking them to share a little about themself. These profiles, along with the staff member’s photo, will appear on our Kolbe website and on our social media channels.
So far this term, our new Learning Leader: Languages, Ms Claudia Russo, and our Year 12 Coordinator, Mr Liam Benton have been featured and we look forward to sharing a little bit about many other staff as the year progresses.
We encourage students and parents to look out for these profiles at https://www.kolbecc.catholic.edu.au/news/spotlight-series and https://www.kolbecc.catholic.e...
Mr Scully and I recently sat down with our new staff to debrief about their experiences across their first term at Kolbe. Many of our new staff are very experienced teachers, coming to Kolbe from other Catholic Secondary Schools, Independent and government schools across Melbourne.
While changing schools is always a challenge - as you get to know new students, new colleagues, new processes and procedures - the positive feedback from our new teachers about their experiences in Term 1 was fantastic to see.
The new teachers were so positive about the wonderful support they had received from their colleagues and were very impressed with the generosity, friendliness and manners of our Kolbe students. Thank you to all of the Kolbe staff and students for making our new staff feel welcome and supported this term.
Very best wishes to Mrs Jaklin Hermiz and Mrs Antoinette Aloe as they begin maternity leave in Term 2. We look forward to hearing about these two new additions to the Kolbe family when they arrive!
We are also farewelling Ms Lourdes Elisha. Lourdes recently described Kolbe as ‘her second home’; having been a student at Kolbe, Lourdes was employed initially as an Learning Support Officer while studying her education degree, and then worked with us as a teacher since 2022. From Term 2, she will be taking up a position at St Monica’s College in Epping. We wish Lourdes all the best for her new role.
