The senior Italian students at Kolbe College were privileged and excited to attend the Model United Nations Association of Australia - Victorian Division, at the Victorian Academy School of Leadership in North Melbourne.
On Tuesday 1st August, students were asked to prepare a speech about the adoption of a new UN resolution addressing Ocean Conservation. The students acted as Assembly Delegates, who stepped into the shoes of a country ambassador to the UN, to discuss global issues on the UN’s current agenda and find ways of addressing these pertinent issues. Prior to the model UN, students were allocated a country, and their role as a country delegate, together with their fellow country team members, were to represent this UN Member State.
The Year 11 students represented Mozambique and the Year 12 students represented the United States of America. Therefore, throughout the course of the assembly, the students expressed and represented the countries’ position, not their personal point of view. The model UN comprised of four key sessions:
