Kolbe Catholic College proudly announces the official opening of its highly anticipated STEM Centre, a cutting-edge facility designed to advance education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The opening ceremony, held on Monday 24 March, celebrates a significant step forward in equipping our students with the skills they need for the future.
Blessed by Bishop Rene Ramirez RCJ and opened by the Honourable Mr Iwan Walters MP (Labor Member for Greenvale), Dr Edward Simons, Executive Director, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools and Nick Scully Principal, Kolbe Catholic College, this new facility will serve as a hub for exploration and creativity, allowing students to engage in hands-on experiences that nurture their intellect and innovation.
We are particularly proud of our Kolbe students who have demonstrated their commitment to STEM education through consistent participation in various initiatives, including the STEM MAD competition. Their creative approaches and problem-solving abilities have set a remarkable standard and exemplify the spirit of inquiry that the STEM Centre aims to cultivate.
"Kolbe Catholic College is leading the way in education through our commitment to MACS’ Vision for Instruction, particularly through our work toward an explicit instruction approach across the College. We believe that learning should be intentional, structured, and engaging, and this STEM Centre embodies that philosophy. It is more than just a building - it is a place where what we know about how young minds learn is put into practice every day, enabling our students to think deeply in every science, technology, engineering, and mathematics lesson," said Principal Nick Scully.
As part of our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, the STEM Centre has been designed with the future in mind. The installation of batteries powered by the solar panels on our stadium roof will allow two classrooms to operate entirely off-grid marking a significant step towards greater energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint. This proactive approach not only enhances our educational environment but also reinforces the connection between STEM and environmental stewardship, encouraging students to envision innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Victorian State Government for their generous $2 million in funding, which has made the construction of the STEM Centre possible. A special acknowledgment goes to Iwan Walters, our local Member of Parliament, for his unwavering support of Kolbe Catholic College.
