Term 1 has been a time of much growth for the Performing Arts department. Students have further developed their skills in Dance, Drama and Music with the various co-curricular opportunities on offer.
The Kolbe Choir made their debut at the College Swimming Carnival by singing the Australian National Anthem. The choir is now preparing for several upcoming events and they look forward to singing regularly to an audience. I thank Ms Tracey Kift and Miss Samantha Mizzi for their exceptional talent and dedication as the Choir Masters.
The Dance Troupe come together each Wednesday at lunchtime to participate in a workshop. This term the focus has been on K-pop. The dance ensemble is now working towards developing a routine to be showcased at an upcoming assembly.
Improvisation can be challenging yet fun. The Drama club have been engaged in learning the craft of being able to think on your feet to act out a scene. Students have embraced the scenarios they have been given and have created entertaining characters.
The Performing Arts clubs were developed to help students grow in their confidence, creativity and teamwork skills. Seeing students step out of their comfort zone to participate has been pleasing. All year levels have been welcomed and new friendships have been formed.
“Participating in lunchtime clubs such as Karaoke and Choir gives me a break from VCE work and helps me to relax and enjoy myself before returning to my studies. Also, I can interact with other year levels and strengthen my sense of community at Kolbe”
Grace – Year 12C
“Being in the choir is really good. It means that we can participate during our break, and we don’t miss out on class time. In the choir we get to meet other people from around the school. As I am in Year 7 this has helped get to know more people”.
Arshleen – Year 7H
“I like the how welcoming everyone has been to the Performing Arts activities. I think people have developed more confidence in their abilities and I look forward to continuing playing in the Rock band”.
Aaron - Year 9B
“During dance class at lunch time I like how there are lots of people attending. I really enjoying helping others with the choreography when we are learning a new dance move. It is a good source of a physical activity that people often don’t have the time or opportunity to participate in. School is a great way to be involved in dance”.
Catalina – Year 8A
“The lunchtime activities are amazing because they give us a chance to interact with other students from all year levels. Also, a lot of Year 9 students don’t have Performing Arts electives in their timetable at the moment, so it is fun to have the opportunity to participate in some”.
Jaydina – Year 9A
