RUOK day was celebrated on Thursday the 8th of September this year at Kolbe Catholic College. Students were encouraged to check in with their peers and ask ‘are you okay?’ as a part of mental health awareness. The theme for RUOK day this year was ‘Connectedness’ with students being encouraged to become involved with established groups such as Kolbe Thinkers Club, Kolbe Chess Club and Art Club throughout the week in the lead up to RUOK day. The day was celebrated with Wellbeing, Reception and Leadership staff wearing the yellow RUOK shifts, with some students also choosing to wear yellow in solidarity.

RUOK also bookended Mental Health Week where Kolbe students were able to take part in numerous Wellbeing activities which included ‘Lego in the Library’, a lunchtime Board Game Group and a Sensory Toy Making activity where students were walked through how to create sensory and fidget toys for stress management. The week also included activities during PC where groups were able to create content for an RUOK day video shown on RUOK day to students and also to create messages of support which were collected for display.

During the week, other departments also celebrated with events such as HPE day and Feast Day. These events helped celebrate the theme of ‘Connectedness’ for both staff and students, and serves as a reminder that wellbeing is a wholistic concept complemented by faith and community.
