What is your role at Kolbe?
Learning Leader - EAL

What does a typical day at Kolbe look like for you?
My day always starts with a coffee, usually with the wonderful people in my office. Throughout the day, I check in with the amazing Multicultural Education Aides, who support our EAL students in their classes, and get their feedback on how the students are going. This year, I’m teaching Bridging EAL, a new subject at our school, and I’m really enjoying planning and teaching it. I also teach a combined Year 12 English and EAL class. Even after more than fifteen years of teaching Year 12, I love that every year feels different, and I’m always learning and trying new things in my classes

What do you love most about working at Kolbe Catholic College?
The staff and the students. I started working at Kolbe in 2023 and from the moment I arrived the staff have been so helpful, amazing and fun to work with. The students, especially the EAL students are just so beautiful. I love their curiosity about things, willingness to learn and their sense of community. It would be hard to find another school quite like Kolbe.

What is your favourite book you have read?

Old/New World - New and Selected Poems by Peter Skrzynecki.

What is your favourite food?

Sushi.

What is your favourite travel destination?

It's hard to have just one favourite travel destination, so here are my top 3:

1. Japan – I lived and worked there as an English teacher, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I love the country’s diversity, from its bustling, neon-lit cities to its charming small towns and stunning beaches.

2. Budapest, Hungary – With my father being Hungarian, Budapest feels like a second home. It’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and no matter how many times I visit, I always find something new to love.

3. Sarajevo, Bosnia – Aside from its incredible food, Sarajevo is a city that has faced many challenges yet remains strong and resilient. Its ability to rebuild and embrace harmony makes it a truly special place.

What do you do during your free time?

I have an almost 5-year-old daughter, and I love taking her out to explore new places and experience new things together.

If you were a superhero, what would your super power be?

I hate cooking, so maybe my super power should involve cooking skills.

What inspires you?

My daughter. She's at the heart of everything I do. Watching her grow, explore, and develop her own personality makes me appreciate the journey of learning even more.
