As we reach the end of 2021 and students begin a well-earned Christmas break, it is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of a busy and challenging school year.

Social-Emotional Learning in Pastoral Care

Our Pastoral Care Teachers undertook a trial over the last few weeks of this term to implement a social-emotional learning program through daily pastoral care sessions. This was a small introduction for students ahead of our launch of Respectful Relationships sessions in daily Pastoral Care Sessions next year. I would take this opportunity to thank our Pastoral Care Teachers and Year Level leaders for their work in preparing these sessions and their enthusiasm to work with our students to strengthen their emotional literacy.

Student Leaders Induction Day

Our 2022 Student Leadership Team came together for their Leadership Induction Day recently to begin planning for 2022. As part of this day, they heard from School alumna and Founder of COTS, Roseanne Raffael about the nature of effective Christ-led leadership. They also spent time with the key staff with whom they will be working closely next year to develop their vision for their portfolio. Thank you to our 2022 student leaders for their engagement and enthusiasm, and to Student Leadership Coordinator, Daniel Mackertich and Director of Students (Senior Years), Samantha Mizzi for their hard work and preparation in organising the day.

Next year our new progressive Year-Level based pastoral care structure will formally begin and Year Level Leaders - rather than House Leaders - will be the first point of contact for families to communicate any important information.

Finally, we are farewelling a valued member of our Student Wellbeing team this year. Ms Stephanie Farrugia has been Frassati House Leader for the past 6 years and has worked closely with myself, the Directors of Students, the other House Leaders and the Frassati Pastoral Care team. As Ms Farrugia moves on to a new challenge, as a Year Level Coordinator at Ave Maria College, we would take this opportunity to acknowledge the impact she has had on many of our students and particularly our Year 12 students during her time at Kolbe. All the best for your new role, Ms Farrugia; you will be missed.
