“Mount Kolbe” Planting Project Update
As detailed in last December’s school newsletter, Kolbe Catholic College was successful in applying for and receiving a Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant.
The grant money was planned to transform a large hill at the rear of the school grounds, known as “Mount Kolbe”, into a native Australian biodiversity haven.
This exciting project commenced at the beginning of this year and has been causing a buzz amongst the College members ever since. Participation over the past couple of months has primarily included students from the year 9 LEAD Gardening Elective class and the student sustainability club, “Eco Warriors” – who have all assisted with the planting of over 250 native trees and plants… Extraordinary!
We are proud to say, that we are only days away from completing this project. Once completed, our passionate staff and students will continue to care for the area, by watering, weeding and keeping it free from litter.
We look forward to providing a final update in the next school newsletter.
If your child has a passion for the environment and sustainability, then please encourage them to join “Eco Warriors”. Lead by Ms Elise Mezner. The club members meet every Monday at lunchtime, in room C1.8, to discuss and brainstorm about all things related to the environment. Feel free to join!
