At the start of 2025, the Visual Arts Department was thrilled to move into our stunning new space within the STEM Building. After a busy relocation process, we are now settled in and excited about the opportunities this new space offers for creativity and learning.

I am thrilled to share that Mario Khamo’s (Year 12, 2024) work was featured in the MACS Creative Arts exhibition. Not only was his work showcased, but Mario also achieved the remarkable distinction of being the only artist to win two prestigious awards: the Zart Art Sculpture and 3D Art Award, as well as the Archdiocese of Melbourne Award for Religious Art. Congratulations to Mario, and to his family for supporting him at the awards ceremony.

Our Visual Arts, Media, and Visual Communication Design programs have had a fantastic start to the year. VCE and Year 10 students recently embarked on enriching excursions, visiting the Top Arts and Yayoi Kusama exhibitions at the NGV, Top Screens at ACMI, and Top Design at the Melbourne Museum. These experiences have provided invaluable inspiration and insight into art and design in specific contexts.

In the classroom, Year 8 students have been developing their drawing techniques and experimenting with collage to create artworks. Year 7 students have been introduced to the exciting world of printmaking, using the printing press to create their own original compositions. Year 9 students have delved into digital drawing through Photoshop, exploring new ways to develop their ideas and create artworks. Year 10 students have been immersed in the wonders of ceramics, with their pieces set to be fired at a local kiln, while also experimenting with sculptural processes to create impressive three-dimensional forms.

Our Year 11 students are currently exploring a variety of art forms, and we are excited to share some of their impressive work and works in progress, including painting techniques, as part of their ongoing artistic development.

Below, you’ll find a showcase of some of the wonderful creations and works in progress our students have been working on in class. We can’t wait to see what they create next!
