As we move into Term 2, we are excited to share the upcoming focus for our Year 10 Pathways students. This term marks an important phase in their educational journey as they begin to consider their Year 11 and 12 pathways for 2026 and 2027. Our goal is to provide them with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their future studies.

Exploring Pathways: VCE, VCE Vocational Major, and VET

During Term 2, students will investigate the various pathways available to them, including the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM), and Vocational Education and Training (VET). Each pathway offers unique opportunities and caters to different interests and career aspirations.

  • VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education): An academic pathway that prepares students for further education and training, university, or direct entry into the workforce. Students will learn about the structure, subject offerings, and assessment methods of the VCE program.
  • VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM): A hands-on, applied learning program that equips students with practical skills for work and life. This pathway is ideal for those who wish to pursue vocational training and TAFE courses. Students will explore the components of the VCE VM program, including project-based learning and work placements.
  • VET (Vocational Education and Training): A pathway that allows students to commence a nationally recognised professional qualification while still in school. VET subjects are typically hands-on and relate to real-world jobs. Students will learn about the VET subjects offered at Kolbe and how they can be integrated with VCE or VCE VM.

Discovering Kolbe's Subject Offerings

In addition to exploring the different pathways, students will also be introduced to the wide range of subjects that Kolbe has to offer in Years 11 and 12. This will help them understand how each subject aligns with their interests and future goals. We aim to ensure that every student finds a pathway and subject combination that best suits their strengths and aspirations. Later in the term

Supporting Informed Decisions

To further support our students and their families in making informed decisions, we are pleased to offer a Subject Expo and Parent Information Evening later in Term 2:

  • Subject Expo: An interactive event where students and parents can explore the various subjects offered at Kolbe. Teachers will be available to provide insights and answer any questions about the subjects and pathways.
  • Parent Information Evening: A comprehensive session designed to inform parents about the different pathways, subject offerings, and the decision-making process. This evening will provide valuable information and guidance to help parents support their children in choosing the right pathway.

We encourage you to engage in discussions with your child about their interests and career goals. Our dedicated team of teachers, career advisors, and coordinators are available to provide guidance and support throughout this decision-making process.

We look forward to a productive and insightful term as our Year 10 students embark on this important journey of exploration and decision-making.
